Annual Battle of Perryville
This was the site of the most devastating battle of the Civil War in the state of Kentucky. It left 7,621 killed, wounded, or missing. There were about 20,000 Union troops and 16,000 Confederate troops involved in the battle. 90 cannons were involved in the battle. General Douglas MacArthur’s father served was a lieutenant on the Union side at the Battle of Perryville. He, too, went on to become a General. The battlefield looks very much as it did when the battle took place on October 8, 1862.
